Hi, my name is Hanna Bowles. I am doing a genius hour project for my English teacher Mrs. Sutton. My partner, Jennifer Bevard, and I have come up with an idea for a project for which we are very excited about. We intend to help our community by getting involved in various ways through nursing homes, DCHS hospital, Almost Home animal shelter, and the Salvation Army. Our goal is to spread the gift of happiness throughout Dickinson County. We have noticed that lots of people lack common courtesy and kindness that they were most likely raised with. My parents always remind me the importance of being kind to everyone and treating people the way I wish to treated. Our goal with our project is to bring joy to a stranger's life (and people we already know) by helping them in any way that we possibly can. We already have a lot of ideas on how we can get started in our community. We wish to inspire others to be kind to each other and get involved in their own communities. It doesn't take a lot of effort to simply be nice to someone. Everyone you know is fighting a battle of their own, so there is no reason to judge a person before getting to know them. Stay tuned on my blog page for information regarding our project! Go take a look at my partner's website: jenbevard.weebly.com
Kill em' with Kindness: Expression meaning being overly kind to those who aren't so kind to you or others
People often don't realize how meaningful or hurtful their words can actually be. A lot happens and especially with social media, how much access people can have to hurt your feelings is frightening. Each of us, no matter how deep, has kindness inside of us to share. It might be difficult when a person is hurting you, but if you can try really hard to be kind, then the kindness in that hurtful person will awaken and overwhelm the person with the realization on how harsh they were being towards others. This flood of emotions, when they realize they did wrong, is what will "kill" their current state of mind and hopefully result in them changing their ways. This overwhelming realization of their wrong doing will cause the individual to feel as if they are "dying" from guilt. Hence the expression, killing them with kindness. Like Selena Gomez says in her song, "The world can be a nasty place but we don't have to fall from grace." When you retaliate harshly, you become the bully. When you stay strong and be overly kind, the bully will feel defeated and have no further reason to hurt you. Those that are treat others poorly are often that way, because they are the hurt ones which is an odd thought. Just remember, everyone is fighting their battle that no one knows about. Don't be quick to judge:)
